When we fabricate a kitchen countertop from a full slab, the leftover piece doesn't go to waste. It's stored in our remnant yard, same material, same quality, just not large enough for a full kitchen run. For a bathroom vanity, laundry counter or bar. It's more than enough.
- ✓Exact same quality. A remnant is cut from the same slab as a $10,000 kitchen. The stone is identical, only the size is smaller.
- ✓Priced significantly lower. Because we can't use it for a full kitchen, we price remnants to move. A bathroom vanity from a remnant can cost 30 to 50% less than the same top from a new slab.
- ✓Selection rotates constantly. Each kitchen we complete adds new pieces to the yard in different materials, colours and sizes. Stock is never the same two weeks in a row.

Where Remnants Work Best
Bathroom Vanity Tops
The ideal remnant project. A standard bathroom vanity is 22 inches deep and 36 to 60 inches wide, a size that fits many remnants perfectly. Upgrade from the laminate top that came with the cabinet to real stone for a fraction of the cost of a full slab. Undermount sink cutouts are included.
Laundry Room Counters
Laundry counters are typically 24 to 36 inches wide and used for folding, sorting and product storage. A stone top is dramatically more durable than laminate and much easier to keep clean. A remnant often covers a standard laundry counter without any issue.
Bar Tops and Wet Bars
A basement bar top is another natural remnant application. Bar counters are narrow, often 12 to 18 inches deep, so even a modest remnant is enough. Granite and quartz handle the spills and bottles a bar sees without complaint.
Small Islands and Built-ins
A compact kitchen island or built-in desk can often be covered by a single remnant piece. If you're adding a small secondary work surface and don't need to match an existing countertop, a remnant is the practical, budget-conscious answer.
Fireplace Surrounds and Hearths
A hearth is a strip of stone in front of the firebox, usually 12 to 20 inches deep and 4 to 6 feet long. That is one of the smallest pieces we cut, so a remnant covers it easily. Granite and quartzite are the sensible picks here because both shrug off the heat and the soot near a working fireplace, and a surround cut from the same piece keeps the whole feature matching.
Shower Benches and Niches
A shower bench is usually 15 to 18 inches deep, and a recessed niche shelf is smaller still. Both are offcut-sized by nature. Stone beats tile here because a single solid piece has no grout lines to scrub, and a remnant left over from a kitchen lets you match the shower accents to stone already in the house.
How to Shop for Remnants in Calgary
Remnants are not a catalogue you browse. Every piece is one of a kind, it is already sitting in our Calgary yard, and once it is gone it is gone. That changes how you shop for one.
1. Measure before you call
Get the length and depth of the surface, and note how many sink or tap holes you need. A remnant either fits your dimensions or it does not, so the measurement is the whole conversation. Rough numbers are enough to start.
2. Ask what is in the yard today
We do not publish a live remnant list, because each kitchen we finish changes it. Call or send your dimensions and we will tell you what currently matches, in which materials and colours.
3. Decide faster than usual
Stock is never the same two weeks in a row. If a piece suits your project, it is worth confirming quickly rather than thinking it over for a month, because there is exactly one of it.
4. Stay flexible on colour
Shoppers who fix on one exact shade wait the longest. Bring a range you would be happy with and the odds of a match in the current yard go up sharply. The stone is full price stone either way.
